Hello and welcome to my website!

I'm Ahmed Lachheb. I'm a design scholar, educator, practitioner, and academic leader. I currently serve as an Associate Teaching Professor of Learning Design and Program Director of the fully online, competency-based M.S.E. in Learning Design at the University of Kansas School of Education and Human Sciences. I hold a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems Technology with a minor in Human-Computer Interaction and Design from Indiana University Bloomington, an M.Ed. in Educational Technology from Grand Valley State University, and a B.A. in English Language, Literature, and Civilization from the University of Sfax, Tunisia. 

 

For over 15 years, I have worked on both sides of the learning enterprise: inside universities as a designer, faculty member, and program director, and alongside organizations as a consultant and trainer in government, corporate, and nonprofit settings. Before joining KU faculty in 2025, I spent five years at the University of Michigan's Center for Academic Innovation, where I led the design and launch of more than 30 online and hybrid courses and programs for Michigan Online through multiple platforms, mainly Coursera, edX, and FutureLearn, helping expand access for more than 50,000 learners worldwide. I work in English, Arabic, and French. 

 

My research grows out of that practice. I study how designers make judgments, use precedent, navigate failure, act ethically, and, more recently, respond to generative AI. I serve as Managing Executive Editor of the International Journal of Designs for Learning and as Interim Chair of AECT's Center of Excellence for Publishing.

Outside work, I am a father of two daughters, a cook and baker, and still someone who finds real pleasure in a hard design problem.​
